How to develop a Birth Centre

The political will and government policy now exists to develop community based midwifery led care.  Maternal Link aims to ensure this change in maternity care is permanent which means it must be financially sustainable. 

Maternal Link has written a toolkit which lays out the practical steps which must be undertaken to produce a financially viable plan for a birth centre. 

The Maternal Link toolkit is designed to be read in conjunction with the following Department of Health toolkits: Modernising Maternity Care: A Commissioning Toolkit for England and the Maternity Matters Self-Assessment Tool for Commissioners

Maternal Link has also written an action plan based on the Department of Health commissioning toolkit tailoring it directly to the development of a Maternal Link birth centre.
