Maternal Link believes all maternity care should be funded through accurately costed PBR tariffs which will ensure maternity care remains a core NHS service.

The medicalisation of maternity services has subsumed midwifery into the acute hospital activity base structure which makes it difficult to accurately extract direct and indirect costs and to allocate hospital overheads appropriately. This toolkit provides the process for extracting the relevant information in order to make informed decisions about the re-design of maternity services.
